Fr. Marvin’s Reflection - May 10, 2026
In the second reading from 1 Peter, we hear: “Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts.” The word “sanctify” means to set apart as holy, to consecrate, or to revere as sacred. St. Peter is calling us more deeply to acknowledge, honor, and enthrone Christ as holy and sovereign within our hearts. When our hearts become a dwelling place for Jesus, we are able to center our lives on Him and grow in faithfulness to our Lord in both moments of joy and times of difficulty. Is your heart set apart for the Lord? Is Jesus truly the Lord of your entire heart or just pieces of it? In sanctifying our hearts to Christ we open ourselves to a greater experience of His love and understanding of His gift of salvation for our lives.
St. Peter also says, “Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence.” Hope is one of the three theological virtues, along with faith and love, infused into our souls at Baptism. It is a confident trust that God will lead us to eternal life and that He provides the grace we need to reach it. It is not mere optimism or wishful thinking, but a steady, supernatural confidence rooted in God’s fidelity even in the midst of trials. Hope is also a fruit of the Holy Spirit, becoming more visible in our lives the more we live in union with Christ.
Reflection Question:
Where in my life is Christ inviting me to trust Him more deeply, so that my hope may become a visible witness to others?
In Christ,
Fr. Marvin
